Flexible Heater Cables for Defrost and Temperature Maintenance

Flexible heating cables offer a versatile, made-to-measure option for temperature maintenance in a wide variety of commercial refrigeration and industrial applications.

Their flexibility makes it possible to adapt the cable to complex shapes to maximise energy and heat efficiency. They are quick and easy to install and can be used where space is limited.
  • Normally 15 W/m or 30 W/m
  • Any capacity up to 500 volts
  • Fitted with heat-shrink sheaths with adhesives or sealed silicon moulding as connection insulation

Heater cables can be supplied with additional protection for immersion in liquids, making them suitable for use as drain line heaters.

Heater cables are often supplied as drain line heaters to prevent freezing in refrigeration equipment.  Their flexibility also makes them popular for the removal of condensation in a number of applications, including refrigerated display cabinets.

Other applications include laboratory equipment, manufacturing, plastics and and electric motors.

Refrigeration Display Cases and Cold Rooms

PVC Insulated Heating Cables
Heating cables are frequently used to prevent mist or frost forming when a glass door is opened on a refrigerated display cabinet. Their flexibility make them easy to install into the door frame.

A heating cable can also be installed into the door frame of refrigeration equipment used at freezing temperatures, such as cold room doors, to prevent door seals from sticking.

Flexible heating cables are normally supplied as PVC insulated cables and available with any voltage up to 500V.
  • Typically 2.3 to 3.5mm diameter
  • Minimum bending radius of between 13.8mm and 21mm
  • IP55-rated
  • Heat-shrink sheath with adhesive
  • Maximum power capacity up to 15W/m
  • Permissible surface temperature up to 105°C
  • Standard 1 metre power cable

Electrical heat tracing is appropriate for gas or oil pipelines, conduits, tanks and pumps. Explosion proof cable and junction boxes can be supplied for ATEX-rated environments.
Chemical Heater Cables
Chemical
With appropriate corrosion resistance, electrical heat tracing can be used in heat or temper vessels containing corrosive substances. Temperature maintenance is also used to manage food ingredients, such as chocolate or glucose, that are damaged by overheating.
Plastics Composites and Adhesives Heater Cables
Plastics, Composites & Adhesives
A flexible heating element can be moulded to complex shapes to control temperatures for the casting and drying of plastics or composite materials, as well as maintaining the viscosity of adhesives.
Heater Cables Service Life
Electric Motors
Heater elements can prolong the life of electric motors by preventing short circuits. As a motor cools after use condensation can occur, leading to possible short circuits when the motor is restarted. Heater elements can be used to eliminate this condensation.
