From 11 to 13 October, we will discuss how savings can be delivered through better integration of scroll compressors and EC fans. This will include new inverter-driven options for horizontal and scroll compressors from Hitachi and Siam Compressor Industry (SCI). We will also demonstrate the innovative results being achieved by Asian producer Unada, as they realise additional gains in fan performance using the latest computer-aided and CFD modelling techniques.

Hitachi have developed new models for lower-GWP refrigerants, with R454C and R455A added to R290 within their range of vertical scrolls. 

Designed for medium and low temp compressor racks, condensing units and large display cabinets, inverter-driven models can achieve a cooling capacity of 15kW. For larger applications, two compressors (one fixed speed, one variable speed) can operate in parallel for a maximum capacity of 50kW. 

With a high-side pressure design, direct suction leads to improved volumetric efficiency with no wasted superheat. Keeping oil within the compressor also means reduced oil return and superior reliability. 

International manufacturer SCI has extended its range of inverter-driven R290 compressors. Five models are now available up to 100CC, with a sixth 130CC model in development.
 
Designed for domestic and commercial heat pumps, the APB range offers superior reliability and high efficiency, achieving A+++ performance using a moveable scroll frame and differential pressure to maintain optimum compression conditions. 

A choice of inverter drives includes SCI's range of dedicated drives which are ready to plug-and-play.  

Measuring just 198mm high, Hitachi scroll compressors maximise retail shelf space as well as save energy. 

Hitachi have been refining the design of its ZS horizontal scroll compressors since 2001 - and its highly engineered solution offers incredibly quiet performance, low vibration and impressive long-term reliability. 

Three models (9.8CC, 15.9CC and 20.1 CC) are pre-approved for use with Optidrive Coolvert inverter drives. 

​Hitachi Horizontal Scroll Compressors​​​

The DPW range of variable speed compressors are suitable for medium and low temperature display cabinets up to 3.75 metres in length.

Featuing an oval scroll to increase capacity, each compact compressor can improve performance over one or more standard reciprocating compressors, with four models available between 22CC and 42CC. 

It offers low vibration and noise and includes an ATEX approved terminal cover specially designed for use with R290.

​SCI Horizontal Scroll Compressors​​​

Already achieving best-in-class performance, Unada continue to re-engineer the next generation of their fan packs, known as the Lagrange range, for new levels of efficiency. 

Extensive research has led to a series of incremental improvements being made to its fan design, including the introduction of dimples like those found on a golf ball. A larger 230mm size has been added to their popular 172mm and 200mm sizes.

Unada only design fans for refrigeration applications. These fans are highly programmable with complete digital control of up to 10 individual fans. Three different speeds can be set, up to 2400 RPM, along with start, reverse & variable speed functions.

​EC Fans and Motors​​​

Still in development, Unada will be presenting a new series of larger EC fan packs. These will measure 300mm and be available with three mounting types. 

The new fans will share the same energy-saving characteristics as the existing Penta refrigeration range. However, the increase in size will make them available for use with heat pumps, condensing units and air handling units.
